With the celebration of baseball’s centennial dampened by the diagnosis of Lou Gehrig, the 1939 New York Yankees pressed on, nonetheless, securing a then-unprecedented fourth straight World Series title. The offered OAL Harridge ball was signed by (20+) members of that Bronx roster. The medium-toned sphere (grade “5”) is home to black-ink steel-tip fountain pen scriptings whose qualities range from (“3”-“5”). Among the legible penning are those of Combs (coach), Dahlgren, Dickey (“4-5”), J. DiMaggio (“4”), Gomez (“5”), Hadley, Henrich, Hildebrand, Keller, McCarthy (manager, “4”), Murphy, Rosar, Ruffing (“4”) and Sundra. The signatures of Gehrig, Gordon and Powell are of the clubhouse variety. Full photo LOA from James Spence Authentications (cert/hologram #X00953).
