Akin to Picasso’s paintbrush, Wayne Gretzky’s hockey stick holds all the wonder and aura of a weapon used for unrivaled passing and shooting. The offered game-used “Easton” chrome “5100” model is one of the first such examples used by “The Great One” and carries added appeal in that it is autographed by its legendary user. Likely crafted in the 1990-91 season, the item features a 52-1/2” aluminum shaft and an 11” blade. In black characters, “Gretzky” is stamped near the butt and again on the lower wooden portion of the shaft. Near the latter identifier, Gretzky’s black marker autograph (inscribed “99”) trumpets “perfect 10” strength. The item shows moderate use, as the blade has the correct “bulldog” tape used by Gretzky with a nice patina from the baby powder he used on his tape. Full photo LOA from Rich Ellis (for stick authenticity); auction LOA from JSA for autograph.
