Description

As bright colors and tight-fitting knit became the fashion norm in the big leagues during the 1980s, these (8) jerseys were worn by major leaguers and/or spring training aspirants. Moderate to heavy wear is evident on jerseys that include:

Bruce Benedict 1982 Atlanta Braves Home Jersey a white knit pullover garment with “Braves” angled across the chest in blue-on-white twill, “20” sewn to the back and left front in like fashion and “BENEDICT” arched on a name plate atop the back number in solid blue twill. Red-white-and-blue striped stretch knit lines the V-neck and sleeve endings. The collar is home to a “Wilson” size “42” label, and the tapered left front tail features a swatch with a chain-stitched notation of “82.”

Joe Nolan 1982 Baltimore Orioles Road Jersey a gray knit button-down garment with “Orioles” angled across the chest in orange-on-black double twill and “50” sewn to the back and left front in like fashion. Black-white-and-orange striped stretch knit lines the sleeve endings, and black-and-orange striped stretch ribbed cotton lines the collar. Within the tapered left front tail, a “Rawlings” size “42” label is accompanied by a “SET 1 1982” flap tag.” The NOB plate has been removed, and the number “50” has replaced the number “17,” suggesting that the jersey was worn by backup catcher Joe Nolan in 1982 and saw subsequent use in spring training.

Eddie Milner 1981-1986 Cincinnati Reds Home Jersey a white knit pullover garment with the “C-REDS” logo sewn to the left breast in white-on-red double twill, “60” sewn to the back in left front in red-on-white twill and “SMITH” arched atop the back number in like fashion. Red-and-white striped stretch knit lines the V-neck and sleeve endings, and the tapered left front tail is home to a “W.A. Goodman & Sons” size “40” label. The jersey was worn by Eddie Milner during his tenure (1981-1986) with the Reds and subsequently worn by another player during spring training, as the number “60” was not used by a Reds player (during the regular season), and stitch outlines of "MILNER" and "20" remain visible on the back.

Dallas Williams 1982 Cincinnati Reds Spring Training Road Jersey a gray knit pullover garment with “CINCINNATI” arched across the chest in red tackle twill, “30” sewn to the back in left front and “WILLIAMS” arched atop the back number in like fashion. Red-and-white striped stretch knit lines the V-neck and sleeve endings, and the tapered left front tail is home to a “Wilson” size “40” label and a swatch with a chain-stitched notation of “82.” The jersey was worn by outfielder Dallas Williams during the latter portion of the 1982 spring training session or in the minor leagues, as “30” was worn by Clint Hurdle during the 1982 season, and there is no evidence of any number or NOB change.

George Scherger 1984 Cincinnati Reds Home Coach’s jersey a white knit pullover garment with the “C-REDS” logo sewn to the left breast in white-on-red double twill, “3” sewn to the back in left front in red-on-white twill and “SCHERGER” arched atop the back number in like fashion. Red-and-white striped stretch knit lines the V-neck and sleeve endings, and the tapered left front tail’s interior is home to a “Rawlings” size “44” label and a “SET 1 1984” flap tag.

Mickey Hatcher 1984 Minnesota Twins Road Jersey a blue knit pullover garment with “Twins” angled across the chest in red-on-blue double twill and “9” sewn to the back and left front in like fashion. Red-white-and-blue striped stretch knit lines the V-neck and sleeve endings, a “Wilson” size “44” label resides within the collar and the tapered left front tail is home to a swatch with chain-stitched notations of “84 1.” The front and back numerals both appear to be replacements, and visible outlines for “HATCHER” appear atop the back number, suggesting subsequent use by another player.

Dave Magadan 1987 New York Mets Road Warm-Up a blue mesh pullover garment with “New York” angled across the chest in gray-on-orange double twill and “29” sewn to the back and left front in like fashion. Blue-orange-and-gray striped stretch knit trim panels line the shoulders, and the tapered left front tail’s interior is home to a “Rawlings” size “42” label and an accompanying strip tag with chain-stitched notations of “87 1 29.”

Dave Beard 1983 Oakland A’s Road jersey a green knit pullover garment with “OAKLAND” arched across the chest in white-on-yellow double twill, “33” sewn to the back in like fashion and “BEARD” arched atop the number in white block-style characters. Green-and-yellow stretch knit lines the sleeve endings, green-and-yellow stretch ribbed cotton comprises the V-neck, and the tapered left front tail’s interior is home to a “Rawlings” size “44” label and a flap tag denoting “SET 1 1983.”
