As an encore to his “Rookie Of The Year” performance, 24-year-old Mark McGwire mixed 32 homers with 99 RBI to help power the Oakland A’s to the 1988 American League pennant. This Rawlings-Adirondack (32.9-oz/34-1/2”) “256B” block-letter (full name) bat was issued to the less-flamboyant half of the “Bash Brothers” duo in that flag-winning campaign. The uncracked ash bat shows excellent use with ball, bat-rack and stitch marks throughout, as well as light pine-tar residue on the handle. The ball marks include blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs from OAL Brown orbs. Additionally, McGwire has signed the barrel in black marker (“8-9” strength, inscribed “25”). The model number, length and weight match McGwire’s orders from the referenced labeling period. Full photo LOA from John Taube, PSA/DNA (for bat only); auction LOA from JSA (for autograph).

PSA/DNA full photo LOA (for bat authenticity only) cert/hologram #1B01896. The conclusion on the LOA states: "After a thorogh examination of this Mark McGwire professional model bat, and its player use characteristics, it is our opinion the bat is authentic and was manufactured for promotional use during the referenced labeling period. The bat's use by McGwire cannot be confirmed."
