As an encore to his “Rookie Of The Year” performance, 24-year-old Mark McGwire mixed 32 homers with 99 RBI to help power the Oakland A’s to the 1988 American League pennant. This Rawlings-Adirondack (32.9-oz/34-1/2”) “256B” block-letter (full name) bat was issued to the less-flamboyant half of the “Bash Brothers” duo in that flag-winning campaign. The uncracked ash bat shows excellent use with ball, bat-rack and stitch marks throughout, as well as light pine-tar residue on the handle. The ball marks include blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs from OAL Brown orbs. Additionally, McGwire has signed the barrel in black marker (“8-9” strength, inscribed “25”). The model number, length and weight match McGwire’s orders from the referenced labeling period. Full photo LOA from John Taube, PSA/DNA (for bat only); auction LOA from JSA (for autograph).
