Although Gale Sayers suited up for just six full professional seasons with the Chicago Bears, the torment inflicted on opposing defenses by the “Jayhawk” native earned him permanent enshrinement into the hallowed halls of Canton. While the “Kansas Comet” blasted through defensive lines on the field, Sayers also gained a reputation as both a humanitarian and successful entrepreneur off of it. This 1974 bronze statue of Gale Sayers was produced by artist T. Holland just three seasons following his retirement at the age of 28. Standing 14” tall on a sturdy 1” oak base, the intricately crafted 16.14-pound rendering captures the speed and physical prowess of the acclaimed running back. While it is unknown if this work was produced for any specific occasion, the extremely limited statue is serially numbered #14/22 on the base and is graced with the sculptor’s signature and Sayers’ facsimile autograph. Presents in (NM to Mint) condition with little discernible wear.
